Computer Programming Languages for Website Applications

Top Computer Programming Languages

ASP.NET was developed by Microsoft and used to integrate database information with website applications.

C / C++ / C#

C was developed by AT&T Bell Labs and is a general-purpose computer programming language. By design, C provides constructs that map efficiently to typical machine instructions, and therefore it has found lasting use in applications that had formerly been coded in assembly language, including operating systems, as well as various application software for computers. C++ improved the functionality of C by adding classes and objects. C# was developed by Microsoft to integrate C with its .NET environment.

ColdFusion / CMFL

ColdFusion was developed by Adobe Systems and was originally designed to make it easier to connect HTML pages to a database. It is a commercial rapid web application development platform.

Java / JavaScript / AJAX

Java was developed by Sun Microsystems and Oracle as a general-purpose computer programming language that is concurrent, class-based, object-oriented, and specifically designed to run on almost any operating system. It is derived from C++. JavaScript and AJAX are modified versions of Java designed specifically for website applications.

Perl was originally developed by Larry Wall as a general-purpose Unix scripting language to make report processing easier. It borrows features from other programming languages including C. It is used for graphics programming, system administration, network programming, finance, bioinformatics, and other applications.

PHP was originally created by Rasmus Lerdorf and is a server-side scripting language designed for website development.

Python was developed by Guido van Rossum and is a widely used general-purpose, high-level programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability, and its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java.

Ruby / Ruby on Rails

Ruby was developed by Yukihiro Matsumoto and is a dynamic, reflective, object-oriented, general-purpose programming language. It was influenced by Perl.
